[Recipe:] Sata Andagi (Okinawan Doughnuts)

Sata AndagiFor those who have watched episode 21 of the popular anime series, Azumanga Daioh, this phrase might seem familiar to you: “Sata Andagi! Sata Andagi!”

What she is referring to is the Sata Andagi that she is holding in her hands, while Tomo is yelling at Osaka, “Okashi?!” (A snack? Candy?)

For those who might want to try to make these Okinawan confection, I’ve found a recipe at http://www2.rpa.net/~joeroa/andagi.htm that might just do the trick. I haven’t tried this myself, but I’d thought that I would share this knowlege with you!

Sata Andagi (Okinawan Doughnuts)

  1. Salad oil for deep frying
  2. 4 eggs
  3. 3/4 cup milk
  4. 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
  5. 4 cups flour
  6. 2 cups sugar
  7. 3 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  8. 1/4 teaspoon salt

In a skillet, heat oil to 350°F. In a large bowl, beat eggs, milk, and vanilla. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture; stir until dry ingredients are moistened and dough is smooth. Drop teaspoonfuls of dough into the hot oil; fry until golden brown and doughnuts rise to the surface. Makes 4 dozen.

Today is International Talk like a Pirate Day!

http://talklikeapirate.com/faq.html#when

“International Talk Like a Pirate Day isn’t one o’ those governmentally sanctioned holidays that shifts around to create a convenient three-day weekend. No, the date is ALWAYS Sept. 19 (Cap’n Slappy’s ex-wife’s birthday.) Now, occasionally Sept. 19 falls on a Sunday, and we recognize that may not meet everyone’s desire for an excuse to party. While a lot of fun can be had ce;ebrating TLADP in a church setting (The choir will now sing, “How Great Thou Aaarrrrt!”) we’re suggesting that those of a more secular bent consider celebrating Talk Like A Pirate Weekend.”

I’ve got a script that on every September 19th, it translates every single blog post into Pirate talk! :D

Arrrr!

Feeling much better

Well, my back is better, my throat doesn’t hurt as much. Not much else to say, so well… yeah. It’s been about 45 minutes since I’ve turned on the computer, a little over an hour since I’ve woken up. Just watching Corner Gas on Comedy Channel, oh and by the way, tune into CBC tomorrow for a whole new season! I’ve heard that Prime Minister Stephen Harper will appear in one of the episodes. Not really much else to say, but Good Morning! :p

Now I’m off to get waffles for breakfast! :)
